Standard Talks is back! The Standard is continuing their panel series this spring with a lineup of conversations with the city's most exciting creators in the sustainability, art, and culture.

Standard Talks x Biofabricate: The Next Generation of Sustainable Beauty & Fashion

The next generation of sustainability in fashion & beauty is here, and raw + natural substances (think: corn, mushrooms, shrimp) are transforming beyond their origins as a food source. Designers are swapping harmful materials like plastic + leather to create clothing + beauty products using these innovative ingredients. Biofabricate, a leader in the space, will be delving into ways that creators embrace unique materials to lead a more sustainable future. The conversation will highlight Hillary Taymour (Founder + Creative Director, Collina Strada, Uyen Tran (CEO, TômTex), and Alison Cutlan (Creative Scientist behind The Rootist, the latest Sephora haircare line) and be moderated by Suzanne Lee (CEO of Biofabricate).

Join us for conversation with artist diedrick brackens around his new exhibition blood compass. In this new exhibition, diedrick features a profound new selection of woven works. diedrick’s creations often incorporate cosmographic abstractions and figurative narratives, weaving together elements of both lived experience and allegory. The works in blood compass mark a new point of departure, exploring darker themes by probing the realms of ritual, myth and religion. blood compass is on view at Jack Shainman Gallery from April 25 - June 1.

Do individuals from the LGBTQ+ community face similar challenges launching, sustaining, or scaling an independent project? Should raising awareness of these challenges be part of the project’s DNA? Can this commitment become burdensome? This panel aims to address these and other questions. This conversation will feature perspectives from Jeffrey Cheung & Gabriel Ramírez (Unity Press), Yola Jiménez (YOLA MEZCAL) & Be Oakley (Genderfail), and will be moderated by Jorge de la Garza (Casa Bosques Art Books).
