We’re hoping everyone is having a strong Memorial Day Monday. We’d just like to remind you that on Wednesday, our next Desert Nights event promises 3 new acts fresh with acoustic love. The performance will take place at The Standard Hollywood at the Cactus Lounge. Here’s the breakdown…

American Bloomers is the union of three singer/songwriters: Jaime Wyatt, Jane Sheldon and Jonathan Sheldon. Their voices blend seamlessly over jangling acoustic guitars and Stonesy electric riffs. The music is crafted in the fashion of Lennon/McCartney, with songs that echo of love, heartbreak and heart-wake.

(Listen to Justine Bennett here)
Justine Bennett grew up amongst artists and hippies in the remote mountains of British Columbia, listening to the folk songbirds of her piano teaching mothers generation. As a late teen, she packed her bags and moved to San Francisco, where she earned her singer/songwriter pedigree busking on the streets. With alto vocals evocative of Joni Mitchell and Natalie Merchant, Justine’s vintage sweetness blends today’s sound with the echo of another era. In 2009, Justine brought her music to Los Angeles. Since then she’s released two records through her label Authentik Artists, and is winning a following that’s steadily growing. She’s performed at such legendary venues as The Fillmore, The Troubadour, and the Hotel Café, landed music synchs on MTV and E and has made a name for herself as a studio session vocalist. Most recently, Justine starred in a folk music review called “Lonesome Traveler”, depicting the history of folk music in America.
Her sophomore album “Heavy Feeling,” produced by L.A.-based Chris Seefried (Fitz & The Tantrums, Rosanne Cash), has won acclaim for its haunting melodies and a lyrical gravitas that might seem beyond her years. You can catch Justine in solo performances throughout the west and online in the iTunes music store.

(Listen to Lael Neale here or on Facebook)
From the Blue Ridge of Virginia to the Golden Valley of California, the distances in between are charted in melodies, not miles. Lael floats somewhere between folk and rock and feathers. With a sweet twang to distract or emphasize the undertow beneath a calm sea…which will it be, The anchor or the buoy?

What is Desert Nights?
Desert Nights is a weekly gathering at The Standard, Hollywood. Every Wednesday, we curate 3 musical acts on the rise to perform a special acoustic set in our hotel lounge. The vibe is warm and intimate, evoking an impromptu jam in a musician’s living room. Also, expect 2 clever cover songs delivered by each performer. The sets begins at 7:30 pm in the Cactus Lounge (thus the title of the evening, Desert Nights).
