Growing up, my parents were all about winter sports. While summers were spent on the Riviera, the winters were spent in the Swiss Alps. It was all about skiing, skating and warm winter fashions. But for my mother and I, we always preferred le après-skate more than the actual sporting, as is apparent by this photo of Mama D’Arde which I found not too long ago. Shhh. She’d kill me if she knew I showed it to you.
ANYSKATE… Hold on to your Brian Boitano knit hats, my Loves, because this weekend, The Standard, New York is bringing you your very own ICE SKATING RINK! Yes, you heard me correctly. We’ve built you a rink to play in all Winter long! We’re testing the frozen waters over the next few weeks and opening officially with a blizzard blowout in mid-January.
But for now, we’ve dropped the 3,000 square foot ice playground right in front of the hotel, and we’ll be offering pick-up ice hockey in the mornings, skating lessons all day and 3 kinds of skates from which to choose! Wait. I still haven’t told you my favorite part…
No rink would be complete without the après-skate menu of my childhood, so we’ve also brought you hot chocolate with marshmallows, whipped cream or crushed peppermint candy cane. There’s also egg nog, hot apple cider, teas and cappuccinos. And if you’re like me, you’ll want to spike that toddy with your choice of bourbon, brandy or dark rum! Let the games begin!

The rink will open this weekend and is located at 848 Washington Street on the corner of 13th Street. Tickets are $12, and skate rentals are $3. Hours of operation are 10am - Midnight seven days a week.
Don’t forget to ask for me when you get there. I’ll show you my favorite triple axel, and no, that’s not a cocktail.
xoxo
