The Standard: Tell us a bit about your background, and what made you decide to enter this field of wellness?

Mateo: Born and raised in the Colombian valley, I came to the United States 11 years ago. After traveling all over the states, I ended up at The Standard in 2005 when they were just opening and started to work there as security/server/night auditor/front office. It was a matter of time until I met Loren Russo, another yoga teacher at The Standard who brought me into one of her yoga classes and that was it - I fell in love with the feeling of peace and joy that yoga generates. I became addicted to yoga and then decided to get certified and teach.

What is your strength?

My strength is having the capacity to facilitate and create a challenging atmosphere so that any aspirant (student) can get a good yoga experience from beginner to advance.

Why is the Miami Standard so different from the other buildings?

Because the place is a hidden oasis once you step inside you never want to leave….

What are you most excited about right now in terms of services?

The specials and varieties. You can try a special where you get a taste of everything - yoga, massage, etc.

What was the last song you downloaded?

MC Yogi, Give Love or something like that.
