The Summer Jam

Jun 30 2010

Somehow we want to build a beach fire and dance in circles to this tune. The drums are tribal, tight, and powerful enough to summon some spirits. Toss in a Malawian singer named Esau Mwamwaya with MIA spitting rhymes over it, and now you have an anthem song for Summer nights.

The story behind this band is quite serendipitous. Esau strolled into a second hand furniture store one day and bumped into these two other guys, underground European DJ/producer duo Radioclit. The three bonded on the spot and formed a band called The Very Best. Together they’ve assembled a collection of work that’s busting boundaries and opening minds.  This YouTube version of “Rain Dance” is an old demo, so go to the link below to check out the final recording.

The band has another song called “Warm Heart of Africa” with a remix by Theophilus London. Clearly this trio of men are linked with the best and brightest. Keep an eye on these folks.

Warm Heart of Africa, RCRD LBL

— on rotation at The Standard, Miami.
