Once in a while, The Standard hotel rallies their troops for some good causes. In this case, it was running a race for Nike’s Tied Together initiative to raise awareness for Aids in Africa (definitely take a sec to check out the trailer here and the recap video here). It was a 5 day race spanning 5 cities in the world — New York, London, Milan, Berlin, and Paris — all leading up to World Cup.

It was an epic journey in response to a health crisis. Staffer Laura Nolte comments on the day Team Standard ran. Another team that ran was Standard collaborators & guest bloggers Saturdays Surf Shop.

“It was SO early!!” laughs Laura about the race which launched in New York June 6, 2010. “I was hating my life when I had to wake up at 5.30 am to be there on time (which of course I still wasn’t) but it became worth it when we started running over the Queensborough bridge watching the sunrise – so gorgeous.. and great start to the day.”

“To top it off the 4K run was followed by a team breakfast in a cute Spanish Harlem coffee shop – almost everyone had the same thing: whole wheat bagels with peanut butter honey and bananas.”

Altogether, it was a bonding moment for all 24 teams involved including All Day EveryDay, Alife, Fader, Vice, Ace Hotel, Supreme, Max Fish, and tons of other cool New York based companies.  ”We were such an awesome team” wraps up Laura, “and having [artist] Cheryl Dunn as our honorary Standard team member was such a treat.”
