“Being a new father has made me aware of how precious the health of your child is” says Chris Mosier, a member of The Standard tribe of creatives (check out his photo coverage of last year’s Art Basel). Not long ago, Chris volunteered with Surfers Healing, an organization dedicated to getting autistic kids in the water. The founder of Surfers Healing, Izzy Paskowitz, accidentally found the healing connection to water with his autistic son, Isaiah. Chris joined the cause by guiding other autistic kids on the front of his surfboard one day. “This had a profound impact on me” said the avid surfer/photographer.
As many parents of autistic children try to find a connection with their children, founder Izzy Paskowitz could not fully tap into his own son, Isaiah. The story goes that one day, Izzy took Isaiah on the front of his surfboard which evolved into a 2 day bonding session. He soon discovered that the ocean was the one place where his son seemed to find respite and a sense of calm… thus the birth of the foundation, Surf Healing.

Izzy comes from a line of surfing royalty, if you will, with a father who basically introduced surfing to the Tel-Aviv scene. Watch Surfwise to meet the legendary father, Dorian. The family has established a respected surf camp for several years. Using the same persistence, and relentless healing energy of his father, Dorian, it is now Izzy that has set up his own legacy by launching Surf Healing and mobilized the influential surf community to rally for loving energy towards kids with autism.

Sea Paddle NYC will be an event focused on raising money and awareness for Surfers’ Environmental Alliance and various Autism non-profits.
On Friday, August 12, 2011 at 7:00 AM, Chris Mosier and the other men will be paddling the 26.5 miles around Manhattan to raise money and bring attention to the cause. Chris will be donating his time and passion paddling around the urban island, and collecting pledges from people like you — both creating awareness (and cash) for the awesome cause.
Don’t forget to pledge Chris for his paddle ‘round the city at Chris Mosier / Sea Paddle NYC. You can follow Chris Mosier at his own personal Tumblr, The Swampier Rhinocerous, where he posts things that tickle his fancy, or to use his own words “my photography and other stuff that blows my skirt up”.
