As you go about your Fashion Week adventures, while jamming out to our special playlist, and of course French kissing a lot, we also hope to see you for this Sunday’s ETE D’AMOUR party which is honored to welcome Philipp Jung, one half of luminous Berlin duo M.A.N.D.Y. Since 2001, Philipp has been a key player in the world of electronic music thanks to his unbeatable taste and mixing skills. Ready to Get Physical? Here is Philipp’s Standard Q&A.

The Standard: With your partner Patrick of M.A.N.D.Y. and your label Get Physical you have been the godfathers of the Berlin sound. What is the most exciting things about Berlin right now?
Philipp: For people who like to experiment, it’s the perfect playground. Still is and still will be. You can try stuff you can’t really try anywhere else. You don’t have the pressure to be successful, so it’s a playground for adults. In all ways.
You got a bit tired with the scene and last year you moved to New York looking for some new excitement. Who are your favorite New York artists?
Laurie Anderson. Richard Avedon. Duke Ellington. Arthur Miller. Mark Rothko.
You both at M.A.N.D.Y are considered as geniuses in the art of mixing. Which djs have been an inspiration in your early career?
We do it for quite some time and at the beginning there were not so many… so i think it would be Laurent Garnier, Sven Väth, Andrew Weatherall.
What is your feeling with the new technologies of mixing? Some djs can be really angry with those new tools…
To be very honest, I don’t know one dj who i enjoy more listening to playing with laptop than without. A little sad, but true.
You also are experts in making the crowd dance and “get physical”. What are your earliest memories of parties as a kid?
Good question. I made my own parties with my cousin. Just the two of us raving to AC/DC mainly. Couldn’t stop. The mirrors were our audience.
I guess you enjoy both playing in huge clubs and small venues. If you had to run your own parties, like only for friends etc. What would be the perfect set up?
The perfect set is your own living room, with a decent not too loud sound, endless supplies of cold drinks and, your best friends… Time is secondary.
If you would be able to travel in time and space, where would you go as a music lover?
I love the 40’s and 50’s, love the jazz in that era… and Elvis in the 60’s. The beginning of that era must have been very special…
What is your 2011 summer anthem so far?
Unfortunately haven’t found it yet. Have to do it ourselves I think!
What is your motto behind the desks?
Give 120% even though you have 5 gigs in a row. People come and pay money to come and see you, so no excuse allowed.
And in life?
There are always two sides to a story and dry your feet last after the shower…
