Last week, both The Standard, Downtown LA and The Standard, Hollywood were playing host to new art installations in conjunction with the arrival of PULSE and Art Platform LA. Each exhibit was worth an in-person peek but we wanted to give you a little taste of the work as well as some insight into the genius brains behind the magic.

A Q&A with Dave Kinsey, 6th Street Mural artist
The Standard: Write a haiku or poem that describes your work that’s on exhibit at The Standard.
Art mimics life/ while downtown/ the essence of our existence/ is all around us.
Can you send us/tell us about an image, song, object or event that’s been inspiring you recently?
I’m interested by all the recent protesting and riots going on in the UK and Middle East—I spent hours looking at photos of all the chaos.
Can you share one top thing you’re most excited to see at PULSE, Art Platform and PST?
I’m glad to see the fairs finally making a presence in Los Angeles—I think it’s long overdue.
What’s coming up for you for the remaining months of 2011?
I’ve involved in various projects including building a house in the Sierra Nevada mountains. Never a dull moment!

All the LA galleries! In a lot of ways it’s a more interesting scene right now than New York.
What’s coming up for you for the remaining months of 2011?
I will be finishing an edition of glass furniture; a snowboard I designed is slated to be released; and I am finally having my big gay wedding in NYC with my boyfriend of 16 years.

A moment with Shannon Plumb, Video Installation artist in The Bigger Loft
Shannon Plumb was busy busy during the LA Art Fair but we managed to squeeze not one, but two haikus, out of the lovely lady that illuminates how she feels about her work exhibited last week.
The Standard: Write a haiku or poem that describes your work that’s on exhibit at The Standard.
Through the glass I see/ Her lips move and not a sound/ I pretend to know
The world is a stage/ He says, so I look and see/ Players just like me
That sums it all up. We’d like to thank all the artists for converging at our venues and hope to see everyone next year… same time, same place.
