Freeman & Lowe Rewrite History with The Double Bind

Jeffrey Deitch takes a peek at our new lobby installation with artist Jonah Freeman

While it’s true that The Standard, Downtown LA’s building has a rich history, it’s nothing compared to what Jonah Freeman and Justin Lowe concocted for their new site-specific installation in our lobby, The Double Bind.

According to the artists, whose recent works include Black Acid Coop, a 23-room, three story architectural intervention at Deitch Projects NY and Bright White Underground, commissioned by Country Club Projects and installed in the JJ Buck house in Hollywood, the installation centers around the Annabel Vale archives, a collection of California art and counterculture artifacts housed in the Limbourg Arms, a hotel based on this very site.

The men of the hour, Jonah Freeman and Justin Lowe

We closed out our LA Art Fair weekend with a bang with a buzz-filled reception for Freeman & Lowe with guests packing the lobby and spilling out onto the street. The Double Bind - Selections from the Annabel Vale Archive, and the Limbourg Arms lobby bar will remain open through early 2012.
