Costume Ideas for Halloween

Oct 21 2011

It is time yet again to embrace Halloween in all its glory and escapism. We thought we should propose a list of inspirational photos to get the wheels in your head turning. Our events at The Standard, Hollywood (Gypsies, Tramps & Thieves) and our haunted Playlist Party at The Standard, Miami will be the perfect place to go dressed as your favorite character. Here is a fresh list of 2011 character considerations…

(Bridesmaids)

We love team outfits. They usually work when buddies stick together all night. Bridesmaids requires a few matching hot pink dresses. For men considering team outfits, there’s always Hangover 2 complete with face tattoo and a stuffed animal monkey prop.

(The Infamous Royal Wedding)

What bigger icons exist than Kate and Wills? This one makes a charming couples outfit - complete with wedding dress and red jacket with sash!

(The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills)

Another team outfit for Fashionistas! Pick your favorite: Camille Grammer, Kyle Richards (with long mane of shiny hair), Kim Richards, Taylor Armstrong, Lisa Vanderpump, and Adrienne Maloof. A tiny pooch makes a good prop too. Our only footnote is that this costume cannot be done inexpensively. If you don’t have designer dresses and real luxury toys, this outfit could be in danger of looking like 5 streetwalkers. Don’t go cheap!

(Drive)

We all have a crush on our “real hero” Ryan Gosling in this years film Drive. We suspect we’ll see a few Drive outfits this year with slick satin jackets and collars up. The real detail of this look is the Scorpion jacket. Get ready men. Dress like Ryan’s character and watch the ladies swoon.

(Nicki Minaj)

Nicki Minaj has exceed Lady Gaga in terms of Vava Voom in the last few months with her outfits, namely her lioness headpiece. There’s plenty of outfits that include, nails, serious color blocking, color contact lenses, and tricked out nails. Visit Google images for more inspiration.

(Amy Winehouse)

A posthumous outfit. Upon her first release in 2006, Amy Winehouse was a favorite Halloween costume. People would dress up as a wrecked drunk Amy, but we believe this year is the year to pay homage and respect to one of the best jazz vocalists of our generation. Amy was in fact a striking woman, albeit with some demons. Perhaps we can suggest a special 2011 version of Winehouse to embody some angel wings or magic fairy dust in honor of a past soul?

Another posthumous outfit. Steven jobs is pretty easy. Black turtleneck and jeans. Maybe some wiry glasses and an Apple prop in hand (iPod? iPhone?). For those creative costume makers, consider dressing as one of his inventions in general.

(iPhone)

(Anonymous, The Hacker Organization)

The organization Anonymous has been a big presence this year due to their hacking notoriety. The masks have been seen at various protests including Occupy Wall Street. The character is Guy Fawkes from V for Vendetta, and we feel this mask is relevant in 2011 for its political resurgence. Good luck trying to find the mask in costume shops, apparently owners can’t keep it in stock due to the massive online movement. This outfit appears most effective and menacing as a team outfit.

(Cher is our Inspiration for Standard Hollywood’s Halloween Bash)

We can’t forget everyone’s favorite queen of the costume: Cher! A Cher costume is always fashionable and the perfect compliment to our upcoming “Gypsies, Tramps, & Thieves” themed Halloween party at The Standard, Hollywood. Feel free to pick from any glamorous Cher era – 70’s to 90’s.

And last but not least, we’re a little stunned Hollywood remade Footloose but Box Office numbers seem to prove that it’s a hit the second time around too. Since we are purists at The Standard, we suggest the original prom outfits of Kevin Bacon and Lori Singer during the closing scene. See for yourself.. and in the immortal words of Kenny Loggins, “Everybody get Footloose!”.
