Cheryl Dunn Needs Your Help

Oct 23 2011

Cheryl Dunn is a New York based filmmaker and photographer whom we consider part of The Standard family. She has posted her world as a guest blogger, shot a short film for our swimwear collection with Quiksilver, and we love her taste for music. She has also contributed arts and culture to various magazines including Spin, Vogue, Elle, Harpers Bazaar and Dazed and Confused.

Today we write about Cheryl to rally our readers in support of a very special doc project she’s been cooking up. Take a look at the elusive Cheryl here in her very own first KickStarter video (a rare peek at the talented lady who normally resides behind the camera).

Here’s a bit more background. In the last year, Cheryl’s focus has centered around a film dear to her heart on New York street photography. Originally commissioned for The Seaport Museum of New York, “Everybody Street” is a film about photographers who have used New York City streets as a major subject in their work. The resulting short film is a precious bottled up history of the city’s most poignant photographers– including Bruce Davidson, Joel Meyerwitz, Mary Ellen Mark, Max Kozloff, Ricky Powell, Martha Cooper, Jamal Shabazz, Bruce Gilden, Clayton Patterson, Jeff Mermelstein.

This month, Cheryl is officially expanding her street photography documentary to a full feature length. She has secured the incredible editor David Zieff (The Cove, Some Kind of Monster, Crazy Love) to weave these stories and incredible photographs from the masters in the field. Now all she needs is a little help in the realm of funds, thus the creation of a new Kickstarter campaign which we highly support.

She adds, “think of it like buying a drawing from your friend’s art show, going to see your homies band, getting a round of drinks… or just spreading the word.” If you notice on Cheryl’s Kickstarter page, different levels of donations will get you different arty gifts in return. So it’s really a “win/win” situation for all art lovers reading this. We invite you to help the make the dream happen for one of The Standard’s favorite talents.
