(James Franco and Laurel Nakadate Consult Tennessee Williams via Ouija)
We’ve seen a lot in terms of performance art, but this one challenges a whole new set of boundaries into the “other world”. Paddle8 and Performa have together co-commissioned Three Performances in Search of Tennessee, a three-part project by Laurel Nakadate and James Franco loosely based on Tennessee Williams’ famous play The Glass Menagerie (1944), involving a séance and karaoke-style auditions.
In part one, Nakadate and Franco will communicate with Tennessee Williams through a Ouija board and receive instructions from the author’s spirit. Paddle8 will stream select portions of the performance, happening at the Abrons Art Center on November 13, to a global audience via its website. Mark your calendars.
