I'm Sad KAWS He's Gone

Last spring, The Standard, New York welcomed its most unique hotel guest for whom it has ever opened its arms. He was sweet, shy, fun loving and primarily larger than life. He was our very own COMPANION by KAWS.

Everyone loved him. They stood in awe of his stature. Kids sat in his lap, and mimicked his covered face for their parents photos. Fans from all over the world made their pilgrimage to the meatpacking district only to stand in his shadow and pay homage to their timid leader. They engaged in a contest to share their most intimate moments with him. We even made a T-shirt in his honor and compiled a video of his arrival so that you will never forget his influence.

But today, my beloved Stan D’epressed ones, I come bearing sorrowful news. KAWS’ Companion is leaving us for the winter to warmer more southern climates. Yes, you heard me correctly. He’s packing his gloves and concrete seat and is heading to Atlanta to take up his next stay at the High Museum of Art in Atlanta, Georgia. Sigh.

We will miss him dearly as I’m sure you will too. So come down to the hotel today to wish him farewell. He’ll be expecting you. Don’t be too sad. He can never be replaced, but we will definitely do our best to try. Did someone say ice skating rink? What? That wasn’t me.

xoxo
