As we race into December with the chaos of holiday planning, we’d like to take a breather and just soak in the whole month of November. It was, after all, the month of the 11-11-11 thing. There was lots of yoga circles and group chanting happening around the world for a numerological date that will not occur again on the calendar for another 800 years! It is a year about being number one – and well, we can relate to that!

For The Standards, it was a jam packed marathon of happenings, beginning with the fact we opened a [5th Standard Hotel](Standard, East Village](http://standardculture.com/posts/5639-The-New-Standard-From-West-to-East) in New York last month. First, here’s a walk through the fun stuff in our universe. For starters, we offered Casey Neistat a weekend at The Standard Hollywood and he came back with this little cute sexy film.

Ryan McGinness Launched His New Manual

Another artist we can’t get enough of Ryan McGinness whom we mentioned in our review of his new book, Studio Manual.. The books are available in our online shop and have sold like hotcakes.

The Standard WeSC Travel Items and Short Film Series

Our collaboration with WeSC resulted in an abundant collection of travel items sold in our shop. In addition to the cool product, we assigned 4 directors to create a short film narrative including the wallet and one of our properties. Beth Reisgraf, Cheryl Dunn, Giovanni Reda, and Steel Lord were the creative minds who completed the assignment. The result was a visual treat. Take a peek at each artist video and interview here.

Standard Spa Member Ewa Josefsson

The Standard Spa, Miami Beach Membership Club keeps on expanding… and we’re loving our guests. Read about Ewa Josefsson, a prestigious part of our member program in The Standard, Miami, who happened to visit the sunny city a few years ago for just a week on business, and has never returned. Miami is now her home with a day job at Flavorpill. We suspect the pool was a good bribe. Another special night for our Standard members was the Florida Lobster Night, a specialty of our fisherman cook, Chef Mark.

SoulWax Drummer turned DJ,Steve Slingeneyer, at Le Bain

At Le Bain, we welcomed the one and only François K. (of Body & Soul) and Alex from Tokyo who helped us tear up the dancefloor. There was also DJ Steve Slingeneyer, aka One Man Party, who is part of the Soulwax crew who brought the house down.

A Week of Performance Art at Performa

In November we were graced with a smart conversation with Roselee Goldberg, Founder of Performa, who held a special week of strong artists and performances to further educate and entertain art lovers on the importance of this genre. Another performance we covered was the weeks presentation of Tyler Ashley’s Performa piece under The Standard, New York. For lovers of Performance Art, this was a perfect week to be in New York.

James Jarvis Releases his book at The Standard, New York, with a book signing

We were giddy to welcome artist James Jarvis who cites Richard Scarry and Albert Camus as influences for his child-like surrealist drawings. James visited The Standard, New York bookstore with co-host KAWS for a gathering of friends and fans to hit up everyones book with his unique signature. Limited Edition posters and hand sketches were also for sale. Read our Q&A with the shy and wildly talented illustrator and toy maker, James Jarvis.
