Desert Nights January 11

Jan 09 2012

This week Desert Nights line-up is so dope that LA’s favorite source for music, KCRW, has decided to throw their weight behind it. For those not familiar with KCRW, let’s just say that they know good music when they see it (check out their free Daily Music Download for proof).

Don’t you just love this video? They’re fun, right? For even more fun, follow The Peach Kings on Twitter by clicking here.

The Peach Kings, aka Paige Wood and Steven Trezevant, crossed paths early in the year MMX. San Francisco held the rendezvous and harbored the early stages of the Peach diocracy as the Two quickly stormed the boundaries of genres. From the tatters of this crusade arose a hybrid class of music: Gypsydelic. Organic in texture and taste, The Peach Kings draw their sound and inspiration from the smoky smooth crackle of blues, folk, and soul vinyls as well as the hypodermic tones synthesized in various beat laboratories across the globe. Stripped down, The Peach Kings power is derived from Paige Wood’s hauntingly sensual vocals combined with Steven Trezevant’s raw guitar majesty. Subtle additions of chains, bells, claps, and shakers, pepper the core-music. More recently, the third member of the dynasty includes Sir Zoom Streetbox, providing the “-delic” of their patented sound, an electroblues concoction.

Guy Blakeslee and his band, The Entrance Band, have been hauling their brand of psychedelic folk all over the US and we’re pleased as plumbs to have him at Desert Nights.

The Entrance Band’s new music is the most alluring and, yes, entrancing vibe I’ve yet to experience in this new age. A soundtrack for the new groove.” -Thurston Moore

Farmer Dave Scher has been a regular on the Desert Nights stage and is constantly surprising and always a treat.

Farmer Dave Scher is an artist from Southern California who specializes in the music / sound design / DJ / visual arts mediums. In addition to his involvement with Beachwood Sparks, All Night Radio, West Coast Dream Sequence, and his self-titled work, Scher has worked as a producer and touring / session musician with Elvis Costello, Interpol, Jenny Lewis, Jonathan Rice, Will Oldham, Vetiver, and many others. A multi-instrumentalist, Scher is known for his textural steel guitar playing and creative use of waveform editing, deriving themes and inspiration from forms and patterns existing in Nature. He has a particular love for the ocean and its creatures, and often emulates the sound and feel of the Sea with his music.

What is Desert Nights?

Desert Nights is a weekly gathering at The Standard, Hollywood, hosted by KCRW’s DJ Valida. Every Wednesday, Valida curates three acoustic musical acts to perform a set in the Cactus Lounge. The vibe is warm and intimate, evoking an impromptu jam in a musician’s living room. The music begins at 7:30pm, it’s always free and always a good time. Guaranteed.
