It’s no secret that part of what makes The Standards, THE STANDARDS, is our staff, brimming with all sorts of secret talents. For example, John Keabler in Guest Relations at The Standard, New York plays a lead in “Faith, Love and Whiskey,” an independent film premiering tomorrow at Slamdance (the “real” indie film festival that takes place amongst the insanity of Sundance). The film is being called, “one not to be missed.” It takes place in Bulgaria and tells the story of a young Bulgarian woman who flees her dream life in America to return home to her passionate, but self destructive friend Val. But when her fiancee, Scott (played by Keabler!), shows up unexpectedly she has to choose between a secure future and a doomed love.
They shot the film last year in Sofia. “The city is gorgeous and surrounded by nature,” John remarks about the month long production. “There were several Bulgarian actors in the film who are huge stars over there. The guy who plays the other lover, Valeri Yordanov, especially was a pleasure. It was the equivalent of starring with Ethan Hawke or Billy Crudup. I was privileged.”
