Desert Nights with Jesse Tyre Karp, Ryan Eggold, and Justin Hopkins

Mar 09 2012

These boys have it all, good looks, charm, and above all fantastic musical talent. Come check it out for yourself this Wednesday during this week’s Desert Nights at The Standard, Hollywood.

Jesse Tyre Karp, keeping it real.

Jesse Tyre Karp: “Singer-guitarist-main songwriter Jesse Tyre Karp of The Estate has a voice somewhere between G. Love and Tom Waits, while the songs he writes have been compared to early-Springsteen. The music is a bit more groove oriented than Springsteen, but straight-ahead rock is definitely the core around which other musical genres are added.” - Santa Cruz Sentinel.

The handsome and gifted Ryan Eggold

Ryan Eggold: A Southern California native, Eggold participated in many school theater performances before becoming a theater arts major at the University of Southern California. Eggold also writes music, plays guitar and piano and sings in a band. He had recurring roles on the Young and the Restless, Entourage, Out of Jimmy’s Head, Brothers and Sisters and Veronica Mars, before obtaining his first series regular gig on the show Dirt. He now plays English teacher Ryan Matthews in the Beverly Hills 90210 spinoff, despite being less than a year older than several of the actors who play his students.

Justin Hopkin’s impressive audition

Justin Hopkins: It’s been over a decade of musicmaking for Justin Hopkins, yet somehow, this industry veteran has returned to the scene with his freshest face to date-Part singer, part session musician, part songwriter, Hopkins has long been recognized by his more successful peers as one of Los Angeles’ hidden gems, and now, with the latest worldwide recognition around his exhilarating performance of David Gray’s “Babylon” on NBC’s hit tv show “The Voice,” Hopkins stands privy to a whole new world of music…
Hopkins relocated to Los Angeles in 2004, and his blend of quirky Soul Rock quickly caught traction when he was spotted by Kenny “Babyface” Edmonds performing with Sara Barielles-His A-list collaborations would continue, working with greats such as Carol Bayer Sager, David Foster, Jesse Velenzuela, and Joe Firstman, who invited him to became a member of the Last Call of Carson Daly House band in 2007-Shortly thereafter Hopkins took his one man show to Europe, where he released the Album, “You are Where you Come From,” which garnered critical praise throughout Europe, and his first single “Why would God Come to LA” took to #12 on the singles Charts in Sweden and Germany. In the following years Hopkins would go on to successfully Produce and write for up and comers like Brett Young, Jennifer Singer and Brandon Chandler. Currently, Hopkins is working on a new record with Grammy winner Jesus “Chuy” Flores and Scott Fisher.

What is Desert Nights?

Desert Nights is a weekly gathering at The Standard, Hollywood, hosted by KCRW’s DJ Valida. Every Wednesday, Valida curates three acoustic musical acts to perform a set in the Cactus Lounge. The vibe is warm and intimate, evoking an impromptu jam in a musician’s living room. The music begins at 7:30pm, it’s always free and always a good time. Guaranteed.
