TO DO: Paddle 4 People at The Standard Spa

Jun 05 2012

TKS Miami and Vokent are hosting the third annual Paddle 4 People charity race at The Standard Spa, Miami Beach. Last year the race attracted over 150 paddle boarders, even a dog rode along on one of the competitors boards. This year it is anticipated that the turnout will be even stronger, with a range of SUP’ers, from beginners to advanced pros. The more serious paddle boarders will compete in a 7-mile race. If you’re just in for the fun, a 3-mile just for fun group will go out as well.

Here are some tips from TKS for the Just for Fun group! There are many common beginner’s mistakes that are easy to make when you’re starting out. Try to avoid them and you’ll have a lot more fun on the water:

• A hunched posture. Keep your back straight, shoulders level. • Staring at your feet instead of the horizon. • The elbow (bent angle) of the paddle facing in the wrong direction. It should point away from you. • Having both hands on the paddle shaft. Your top hand belongs at the very top of the paddle, on the grip. • Standing straight-kneed. It’s much easier to balance with bent knees.

Paddle 4 People has been rescheduled due to weather for August 4, 7am – 1pm. All proceeds will be donated to AdoptTogether, a non-profit organization dedicated to helping families fund adoption. Space is limited, pre-register here. Sponsored by Societe Perrier.
