John Cage Day at MoMA, Dance Luncheon at Le Bain

Aug 09 2012

The emphatically non-standard composer, John Cage

If you’re looking for a way to pass yet another hot, hot, hot, hot day in New York, MoMA is celebrating the centennial of the late, avant garde composer with a whole host events and concerts. If there was anyone who so succinctly challenged what is “standard” it was our man Mr. Cage. If you’ve never heard his notorious 1952 “masterpiece” 4’33”, watch it here.

Flavorpill, re-appropriating one of the newer dance crazes in Europe, is kicking off Lunch Break this Friday at Le Bain. The concept is simple: instead of the same old same lunch routine, come dance your ass off for one hour to great DJs playing on a booming sound system. When you’re done dancing they’ll feed you a complimentary brown paper bag lunch that you can go back to work with or enjoy on the rooftop. DJ Mister Saturday Night kicks it off with free booze from Absolut. Lunch Break is free with RSVP. 1-2pm.
