Desert Nights with Chris Glover, Ted Russell Kamp, and Granville Automatic

Oct 12 2012

This Wednesday, like every week, we’re bringing you the best and brightest of LA’s folk scene at The Standard, Hollywood’s Desert Nights. It’s easy! Just saunter on over, grab a cocktail, sit back, relax, and enjoy!

Chris Glover (of Penguin Prison): Chris Glover aka Penguin Prison will treat the Desert dwellers to acoustic versions of some of the electro floor bangers that he is famous for. This will be a softer, less electric side of Penguin Prison and we are excited to hear his songs in a rare, intimate and unplugged form!

Ted Russell Kamp: Ted Russell Kamp is a singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, and producer living in Los Angeles. He proves himself as a solo artist and songwriter of note with Get back To The Land. It made the Top 100 Americana Records of the year for 2011 and debuted at #1 on the Euroamericana Chart in January 2011.

Great interview with the ladies of Grandville Automatic which aired as part of the PBS series Sun Studio Sessions.

Granville Automatic: Granville Automatic is Vanessa Olivarez and Elizabeth Elkins. The duo write songs pulled from a shared love of history, horses and war. Granville Automatic is named after a 19th-century typewriter: Vanessa is a collector. With sonic references like Lyle Lovett, Gram Parsons, Emmylou Harris and Willie Nelson, Granville Automatic has created a quiet and lyrical sound devoted to telling stories from the past. After writing together first in the spring of 2009, the pair has more than 90 songs – almost all of which tell stories from history.

What is Desert Nights?

Desert Nights is a weekly gathering at The Standard, Hollywood, hosted by KCRW’s DJ Valida. Every Wednesday, Valida curates three acoustic musical acts to perform a set in the Cactus Lounge. The vibe is warm and intimate, evoking an impromptu jam in a musician’s living room. The music begins at 7:30pm, it’s always free and always a good time. Guaranteed.
